What is Internet Explorer?

Internet Explorer is a web browser developed by Microsoft for its Windows operating system. It has been in use since 1995 across various versions. Version 11 (IE11) is the latest and final version of the browser.

Why is it no longer supported?

With the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft developed a new browser - Microsoft Edge - to replace Internet Explorer. Windows 7, the last supported version of Windows before Windows 10, is no longer supported by Microsoft as of the 14th of January, so support for IE11 is also being withdrawn.

How will it affect me?

As an EKM online shop owner, you may use Internet Explorer to log in and manage your EKM online shop. There should be no immediate impact of IE11 losing support, but it does mean that if any issues arise on your shop that are unique to the Internet Explorer browser they may not be resolved. Similarly, if any of your customers use Internet Explorer and notice usability issues exclusively in IE11 it is unlikely these issues will be rectified.

I use Internet Explorer, what should I do?

Many of the people who use Internet Explorer do so because it comes installed as standard on their Windows computer. If you’re using Windows 10 then you can simply use the Edge browser, which is Microsoft’s current offering. You could also look into other popular browsers such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox

If you are using a version of Windows older than Windows 10 (Windows 7 or Windows 8) you can also use Chrome or Firefox, while Microsoft will be releasing its Edge browser to support these older operating systems for the first time, although it would be advisable to consider upgrading to Windows 10 in the near future for maximum compatibility.

I don’t know which web browser I use, how do I find out?

The easiest way to find out which browser you’re using is to visit the website What is My Browser. This site will tell you the browser and the operating system that you’re using to view the site. It will also tell you if the version of the browser you’re using is up-to-date.
