A Pop-out Menu is a Menu where the user must click to reveal the contents if they're not immediately visible:
Pop-out Menus are mostly horizontal so that they span across the top of the page, but on some Themes they are vertical and appear on the left-hand side of the page:
Pop-out Menus are suitable for most kinds of EKM online shops with a limited number of Categories and Subcategories. If you have a lot of Categories and Subcategories, you may be better suited to use a Mega Menu.
