Drop-down Variants are useful when your Product is not clothing, footwear or something that is worn where Colour, Pattern or Size Variants would be more applicable.
Before you begin it's a good idea to take a look at this Guide, which explains everything you need to know about how to best display your Products and their Variants on the EKM shop platform without affecting your customer's experience or page speed.
Locating the Add/Edit Product window
1. From the Dashboard, click Shop on the left-hand menu:
2. If you have already created a Category and some Subcategories, click through these until you locate where you would like your new Product to be displayed, before clicking Add Product in the top right-hand corner. However, if you want to create a Product on the Homepage itself, just click Add Product:
3. As usual, you’ll need to complete the fields for Product Name, Description and Price minimally, before you click the Variants tab on the top left-hand side of the Add/Edit Product window:
Manually Adding Drop-down Variants
4. Click the Add Variant button:
5. From the window that appears, click the ‘Create Variant’ button for ‘Other’:
6. Give the Variant a name, and then click the green Save button:
7. You then need to add the names of the Variant Choices. Add each Choice into the field provided and click the green + button to add that Choice before adding the next one. When you have completed adding your Choices, click the green Save button:
8. You’ll then see both of the Variant Choices listed under ‘Variant Combinations’. In the example, the customer can choose from two different kinds of sleeves - ‘Capped’ and ‘Classic Length’. You can add a Product Code, Price and RRP (Recommended Retail Price) to each Variant Choice, as well as adding figures for the number of units you have in stock. When you have added these values, click the green Save button to the bottom right:
9. You now need to add Images to each of your Variant Choices so that as customers click on the Product Page, the Product Images change accordingly. To do this, click the Edit button on your first Variant Combination:
10. In this area of the Edit Product window, you can edit different aspects of this specific Variant Combination; you can amend the Price, RRP, Weight, Tax Rate, and amount of Stock and configure Delivery Charges too. Click the Images & Photos tab on the left-hand side:
11. Click the Pencil symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of the first Image field:
12. You will then be able to choose whether to Upload New - upload a Product Image from your computer for this Variant Combination, or whether to Choose Existing and select an existing Product Image from your File Manager:
13. When you have added the first image, aim to add more Product Images until the full row is completed to guarantee the best level of customer experience. Customers like to see the Product from different angles, with Images concentrating on specific Product Details. When you have completed this task, click the green Save button on the bottom right-hand corner and then click the ‘Return To Master Product’ tab on the top right-hand side of the window:
14. You now need to repeat this for your other Variant Combination. Click the Edit button:
15. Click the Images & Photos tab on the left-hand side of the window:
16. When you have uploaded Product Images for that specific Variant Combination, click the green Save button on the bottom right-hand corner and then click the ‘Return To Master Product’ tab on the top right-hand side of the window:
17. You can select which Variant Combination is displayed by default by clicking the circle symbol on the far left-hand side to make it blue. Now you need to click Save & Close:
18. On the Product Page, your Drop-down Variants will look like this:
[remember]Please bear in mind that if you have a product with a lot of variants, this will change the way you have to display this product, as lots of variant choices can negatively affect the page loading time and therefore, the user experience for any potential customers visiting your site. If you’re not sure how to display your products with variants correctly, contact your Account Manager or the Customer Support Team, who will be able to advise you further. [/remember]
